TACLOBAN CITY – “Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.” Heeding this old adage, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Region VIII sponsored a training on “Establishment/Management of Scion Grove and Nursery and Asexual Plant Propagation,” for its beneficiaries of the Community Based Forest Management Program. With 23 farmers representing seven People’s Organization (Pos) in the region, the training aimed to teach the farmers hot to produce high quality planting materials of fruit tree species using asexual propagation methods like grafting, budding and marcotting. The establishment and management of scion grove where the planting materials are sourced was an important aspect of the training. |
