Communications

Communication plays an important role in the development of an area. It provides news to the population making them more aware, informed and updated on the latest development trends which affect them directly and indirectly.

Most common convenient communications among the middle and upper level of the population is the use of Cellular Mobile System (CMS). Smart and Globe dominate the city’s mobile phone services and followed by Sun Cellular. Landline is also available in the city under the management of West Samar Telecom, Inc. which caters the local telephone lines. The giant national telecommunication company, PLDT, also operates in this area and contributes in making communication possible to all areas.

There are also two (2) radio stations servicing in the city: One (1) AM Radio Station, the DYOG (Radyo ng Bayan) and one (1) FM Station, DYSI-FM of NBC. There are three (3) TV Stations in the city: One (1) DYDI Channel 10 which hooked – up ABS-CBN Programs, Two (2) Relay Stations of GMA – 7 and NBN – 4. The Cable TV services are being served by D’Leopards Cable TV and the Fil Products Services Television, Inc.

In addition, the city has also a government telecommunication office, the Bureau of Telecommunications and a privately-owned RCPI, existing also is a semi-government post office, besides several parcel and letter forwarders such as LBC, JRS, Fastpack, Far Cargo, FedEx etc.

Postal

There are four (4) post offices in Calbayog City. With the present standard of one (1) Post Office per 50,000 populations the city has more than enough. However, due to the big area and dispersed settlements and scattered growth points, the need for additional postal offices would be appropriate.

There are 108 small mail boxes and 18 medium sizes. There is only one (1) money order machine, two (2) stamping meter machine, one (1) mail transport vehicle and nine (9) Mail Carriers.
